So you’ve decided it’s time to upgrade your existing air conditioning system to a more energy efficient system. Congratulations! You’re making a long-term investment in your family’s comfort as well as the reduction of your utility bills and responsible consumption of energy. While those are all great things there are still a couple other things you can do to prepare your Gaithersburg home before you get going with the air conditioning installation process.
First of all, the AC contractor should have completed what’s called a heating and cooling load calculation. This complex calculation takes into account the home’s structure, roof, windows, direction and location to identify the size and type of equipment needed. Ask to see the load calculation and have it explained to you. If the contractor did what’s known as a Block Assessment, or did not complete a load calculation at all, we would strongly recommend finding another contractor or calling Parker Pearce Service Experts at 301-476-4577. Your Gaithersburg HVAC expert will be able to give you a full assessment.
Next, have the company clean your ductwork. It’s not recommended to introduce caked on dirt and dust from a decades old duct system to your brand new air conditioning system. The health of your entire system and the quality of the air you breathe starts with your ducts providing clean air, so make sure that they are cleaned and properly sealed by the HVAC contractor. If you can’t remember the last time you had your ducts cleaned or have never had them cleaned, have the contractor perform a duct cleaning before your new AC installation.
Prior to the air conditioner installation you will also want to clear the area where equipment will be installed, and make sure it is easy to access. There are stairs, landscaping porches, decks or other items surrounding the AC, clear the area as best as you can. Make sure the area is clear of yard waste like big sticks and leaf piles so installation is even easier. Also make sure to clear away anything else that could get in your installation expert’s way such as garden hoses, rakes, or children’s toys. Make sure pets are confined so they do not get in the way of the installation crew.
Think you’re ready to move forward with the air conditioning installation process? Call the experts at Parker Pearce Service Experts at 301-476-4577 or schedule an appointment online for a free home comfort analysis and system upgrade estimate.
