Getting Ready for Air Conditioning Season

April 30, 2016

Summer isn’t officially here but the temperatures are definitely warming up and that means it’s time for air conditioning season. Before the temperatures soar and you’re running your air conditioner 24/7 to stay comfortable, don’t forget to call your AC maintenance technician to stop by and complete your yearly ac maintenance.

In addition to an AC system tune-up, there are a couple other ways you can prepare for the cooling season before warmer weather is officially here to stay.

  • Clean Your System

We don’t mean for you to take you’re A/C system apart, let an expert do that, but you can clean up the ground around your A/C to clear away twigs and debris that have made their way to your air conditioning unit during the windy winter and stormy spring. Keep the grass trimmed around the A/C and trim back any overgrown bushes or vegetation to make sure your air conditioning unit is clear of debris. Clearing the air way can help keep your air conditioning unit running properly.

·     Change Your Home’s Air Filters

Parker Pearce Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning will change your home’s basic air filters when they perform your seasonal tune-up as part of your regular A/C maintenance. You can (and should) also change your HVAC air filters by yourself, and it’s advised that you do so at least every one to two months for optimal performance. If you don’t replace your filter it accumulates dust, allergens, and germs so for the health of your family and the efficiency of your air conditioning equipment, make sure you’re changing those filters as part of your seasonal air conditioning service. Note that a clogged filter could possibly damage your AC equipment.

  • Block the Sun

Help block the sun from heating up your home by hanging blackout drapes or window shades. These window coverings may also help keep your furniture and floors from fading or suffering from sun damage over time.

·     Check Alarm Batteries

If you forgot to check the batteries in your smoke and CO detectors over daylight savings, now is the time. Remember to also check the batteries in your thermostat to make sure it is working properly so you don’t end up calling your HVAC company because your system isn’t working and then it ends up just being the thermostat. You could also consider purchasing a smart thermostat so you can adjust the temperature while you’re away and save money on your heating and cooling bills.

A yearly A/C system tune-up service could make your air conditioner up to 30% more efficient and save you money on your cooling bills. Call Parker Pearce Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning today to make sure your cooling equipment is set to keep you cool and comfortable through the summer and find out about our spring specials on A/C system tune-ups.
